Saxton Cider

Saxton is a new range of ciders from New Zealand brewery McCashins developed for fresh food retailer Woolworth’s, Australia.

I created an identity and packaging that mixes clean and minimal typography with 18th century botanical fruit illustrations to communicate a hand-crafted sensibility while evoking an earlier time where the settlers of Nelson started Saxton Fields (a local orchard in which Saxton Cider takes it name from).

The result is a very elegant and sophisticated looking packaging solution that expresses a genuine sense of detail and loving care.

NZ International Comedy Festival 2012

The New Zealand Comedy Festival wanted to take this years festival to the next level, not only celebrate the them being 20 years old but also to take on a risker, more edgy look than their past campaigns.

Working closely with the festival organizers we came up with an underlying theme to this years art direction – ’20 years of laughing dangerously’. We would approach it with tongue and cheek, have it packed full of comedy cliches with a comic illustrative style combine with the grit of a distressed street poster campaign.

The final campaign elements ultimately boiled down to a ‘dangerously fun’ reusable wallpaper background paired with a clean circular button logo lockup around the ever present laughing man. These elements would be shaped and reused throughout the festival booklet, print ads, web advertising, TV commercials, ad shells and other traditional signage.

Identity Design

Luscious Food Store

Luscious Catering needed some startup identity design work done for their new cafe in Te Atatu.

The budget was small and initial brief was for logo and brand elements, simple stationery set and signage for the store.

We decided that the identity needed a luxurious and extravagant quality juxtapozed with classic restaurant appeal. The end result was an over embellished yet miminal logomark stamped with a gloss gold foil. The checkered pattern was a nod to the classic restaurant look the client wanted that would also be replicated in the store front canopy.

Stand by for further photos of the premises.

Design, Interactive Direction

Fletcher Systems for the Ipad

Fletcher Systems is an Auckland based furniture design company. I had previously built their website in flash a few years back and they were looking for a way to elegantly showcase his furniture range when meeting with potential clients. So we suggested an iPad specific site that would eventually takeover for the existing flash site.

The end result was a minimal, photography focussed portfolio style site that drew from the best of the previous website while creating a new rich experience for iPad users.

Monster Time App

I was approached to lend my illustrative talents to a fun literacy tool for the iPad and iPhone. Monster Time is a fun and interactive app designed to help parents teach little monsters how to tell the time.

For my part I had to devise five of the cutest & craziest monsters and hand paint and illustrate them in a bright and colorful way.

The result is a super fun and engaging app that has been very successful and has been received very well by both international press (The Guardian) and children’s education sites around the world.

Conspiracy Wines

BestWineBuys’ Conspiracy Wine Range is sourced from several New Zealand vineyards, their locations unknown to the public. A secret that lies shrouded in mystery unlikely to ever be divulged.

We were approached to create refreshed packaging and a branding identity that would encapsulate this mystery in a new and enigmatic way.

The end result references 1940′s film noir themes and era specific poster typography to create a revitalized new look for the range.

Layout & Pre-Press Design

Birds of Paradise

Birds of Paradise was a compilation album of local female singer songwriters. The project was art directed by Kim Band during her time at Supply. I completed the project and helped out by doing the layout design and pre pressing the cd artwork for print. It was a fun project I was happy to be a part of.

MTV Mile High Gig ’09

MTV New Zealand hosted an annual event called the ‘Migh High Gig’ where they flew VIP’s and competition winners to the MTV Australian Music Awards and had a gig on the plane whilst you were travelling. For this particular event guest artists were Dizzee Rascal and Scribe.

I was charged with coming up with the branding, art direction and overseeing the design of campaign elements. This included Logo, Invite, Posters, Flyers, TV Spots, Tshirts, Event dressing & a custom typeface that was inline with the MTVAA logo.

Identity, Logotype

Custom Residential

Johnny Wills was starting a boutique real estate office in Ponsonby and needed an identity package built from the ground up. This was a large scale project with all the team at Supply pitching in to complete the project from branding, signage right through to an online listing site.

My involvement was to create a strong wordmark and brand colours that would be clean, modern, professional, trustworthy and help them find there place within a saturated marketplace.

This would be the building blocks for the identity that would be pushed through to the signage, stationery and their web presence.

Design, Flash Build

Netbasics

Netbasics was a hugely successful interactive website built to highlight online safety to children. Working with Apropos & Supply I designed and built this flash website which showcase thirteen 3d animated stories about a family and the perils of online security.

UGDDA ’08

This was a fun packaging and interactive job I did pro bono for some graduating students at Unitec all the way back in 08.

They required an eye catching interactive cd to showcase all their motion and animated works for their graduation exhibition and to send to potential employers.

It was a lovely excuse to use foils on the cd packaging and to experiment with creating a custom typeface.

The interactive piece was built using flash and papervision while it was in its infancy.

Art Direction, Design, Build Management

Scam Machine

Netsafe approached Supply wanting to build an interactive piece to engage an online audience on the perils and pitfalls of online scams. Our solution was to create a flash site where you can upload and inject unsuspecting victims photos into faux news story for the user to disperse virally.

I was tasked with the design, prototyping, overseeing the build and video and the visual effects.
